Let's Talk About Money at Work

February 4th, 2026 | 12:00pm to 1:00pm | Deborah Jeffries, SHRM-CP, SCP, CPC | Free

Money is still one of the most taboo topics — at home, among friends, and in the workplace. And because we don’t talk about it, many people never get better at managing it.

Yet financial stress is showing up at work every day. Recent research shows that 56% of employees cite financial stress as a contributor to presenteeism — being physically at work but mentally disengaged. Financial illiteracy now affects more than 5 billion people globally, making it one of the most significant (and least discussed) wellness challenges of our time.

Organizations that offer financial education as a benefit have an opportunity to support employee wellbeing in a meaningful, practical way. Financially educated employees tend to be less stressed, more engaged, and more productive. They are also better able to understand and appreciate their total rewards — including retirement plans, health and disability benefits, tuition assistance, and profit-sharing programs.

This HR Lunch Bunch conversation will explore:

  • Why financial stress is a workplace issue — not just a personal one
  • What “financial education” can realistically look like inside organizations
  • The role of both digital tools and human support in effective programs
  • Common barriers employees face in turning financial knowledge into action
  • Practical ways HR can start (or strengthen) financial education offerings without overstepping boundaries

This session is designed to be discussion-oriented, with space to share what you’re seeing in your organizations, what’s worked (or hasn’t), and how HR can play a role in building financial confidence — not just compliance.

Join us for a thoughtful conversation about how financial education can support engagement, retention, and overall employee wellbeing.

Protected Leave Adventures: FMLA + Paid Leave Oregon

March 4th, 2026 | 12:00pm to 1:00pm | Laurie Grenya, SPHR, CCP | Free

Oregon leave can feel like a two-lane roundabout with no street signs: FMLA on one side and Paid Leave Oregon (PLO) on the other. They sometimes cover the same life events, they often play by different rules, and they can run together (or absolutely not) depending on the situation—not to mention the other protected leaves meeting you at the four-way stops of every leave adventure. Join us for a 60-minute networking Lunch & Learn that keeps it high-level, practical, and a little cheeky—because leave administration is serious, and we can still laugh while we get it right.

Learning objectives (you’ll be able to…)

  1. Define FMLA vs. Paid Leave Oregon in plain language: what each program is designed to do (job protection vs. pay replacement + job protection).
  2. Spot the overlaps: what both can cover (the “both boxes checked” scenarios).
  3. Identify what’s unique to each program (the “surprise—this is only PLO” and “surprise—this is only FMLA” moments).
  4. Know when they run concurrently—and when they can’t—so time off doesn’t accidentally stack.
  5. Manage intermittent vs. continuous leave with fewer headaches: tracking, scheduling, and the real-world ripple effects for operations and payroll.

If you’ve ever thought, “I think this is concurrent…?” and then immediately opened 12 browser tabs and sighed, this session is for you. Come grab lunch, connect with colleagues, and share experiences that help us all get better at navigating leave with consistency and confidence. You’ll leave with a clearer mental map and a few manager-friendly talking points—because “just keep me posted” is not a leave strategy.
