Working with Volunteers

Your organization spends countless hours engaging, recruiting, and registering volunteers. But what happens after they express interest and are ready to give your nonprofit some of their free time? You need to build an effective process/training program that will help your volunteers develop skills and adapt to your nonprofit’s culture. You want to make sure they are in alignment with your organization and are passionate about your cause.

Creating a process for the optimal use of volunteers is critical. While these individuals may not be employees you still need to focus on the volunteer management lifecycle, including the process for planning, recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising, developing, and soliciting feedback from volunteers.

This program is ideal for people who currently work with volunteers who would like to brush up on their knowledge and people who are new to working with volunteers (maybe even being a volunteer yourself).

In this program we will cover:

  • Questions you should ask your team before developing your training program.
  • The mechanics of working with volunteers and the importance effective communication plays.
  • Onboarding essential for volunteers.
  • Training success practices for volunteers.
  • Sharing and setting performance expectations for volunteers.
  • Having conversations with volunteers when “it” is not going as planned.
