2021 shall go down in history as a year when America saw a huge defection in its workforce.  In September alone, over 4 million workers resigned.  Named “The Great Resignation,” this phenomenon is a first in history, which is attributed to what the Boston Consulting Group calls a “widening mismatch between the job environment employees want—and now expect—and the one their organizations have.” (Harvard Business Review, November 15, 2021).  What percentage of these millions of resignations include those from underrepresented groups, such as Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), people with disabilities, veterans, LGBTQiA+, is unclear.  What is apparent to me as a diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging consultant is that based on my 15 years of experience in this field, retention of BIPOC and other marginalized groups has been an ongoing challenge even prior to the pandemic.

In our one-hour session together on February 2, let’s explore and discuss the reasons behind retention, what your organization has done/is doing about it, and share ideas on best practices for inclusion and belonging which ultimately affect retention.
